So you grew a beard.  Big deal,  so did my sister!

Followed every detail of the Little Mascot from the lovable breakfast cereal “Lucky Charms” to make sure you were authentic, did you?  Hmm getting a bit warmer…

But if you really want to look like an authentic Leprechaun for this year’s St. Patricks Day then you have got to have Green Glowing Hair Gel!  As anyone knows the Leprechaun is only special if its glowing, otherwise its just a wee little person in costume.

St. Patrick’s day do’s and don’ts

banner, glow, house party No Comments

Do:   Have tons of Beer

Don’t: Dye it Green thinking it will look cool, looks don’t count here and the coloring kills the taste!

INSTEAD:  Use Glowing Green Cups or Beer Mugs

Do Have the party at your house instead of a Bar

Don’t go cheap and skip the decorations or themeing, otherwise you’re just having people over to drink… instead of CELEBRATING!!!

INSTEAD:  Use tastfully tacky decorations to give your rec room or garage that Irish feel complete with Shamrocks and Pots of Gold!

Do Have a lot of people over, the More the Merrier!

Don’t act like a scrooge (british litterary character Not Irish!) and have two or three people, again that’s not a party and it won’t be any fun!

INSTEAD:  Advertise your party to all your neighbors with a custom banner themed to St. Patrick’s Day!  Why make them jealous?  Be the talk of the street with inviting them all

Do use paper plates and serving bowls.

Don’t use real plates that need to be washed and dried for hours after the event, you’ll thank me later.

INSTEAD use themed paper plates and utensils to get that extra GREEN needed for St. Patricks Day, again dyed food doesn’t taste good while a green plate gets the point across!

Do buy all your Party Supplies necessary from Windy City Novelties, Inc.

Don’t over pay by going to a local party store or worse yet, a grocery store…

INSTEAD save 40-75% by buying direct online again at Windy City Novelties, Inc.

Halloween Fun and Safe

Chemiluminescence, chemoluminescence, costume, decorations, glow, halloween, light-up No Comments

Halloween is a fun time, as you can probably tell its a big time of the year for me (just look at all the posts related to it here)  I love the fun nature of the holiday and the fact that everyone can act like a kid.

But… there are safe ways to play and not safe ways to play.

  • Putting a candle in a pumpkin and letting it burn through the night? NOT SAFE!
  • Walking around in a dark costume so that no one can see you? NOT SAFE

Luckily these are two dangers that can be easily avoided.  For the pumpkin simply use one of our LED candles to illuminate it, they look like real candles and flicker like it too.  And for the dark outfits, just bring a couple of glow sticks with you to make sure that you’re easily seen.

A few other safety notes:

  1. only trick or treat in areas you are familiar with
  2. never go off on your own
  3. abide by your local rules regulating trick or treat hours
  4. INSPECT ALL CANDY BEFORE EATING ANY
  5. Have fun and don’t ruin the time for you or anyone else.

your hair needs a new look

chemical reaction, costume, dress-up, glow, halloween, imagination No Comments

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this… but your hair just isn’t up to Halloween standards.  It’s not scary, or funky, or even different; it’s just the same it has always been… blah.

But that doesn’t have to be the case! No, you can spice up your hair with little effort on you!  Two awesome products can completely save your hair from a social faux pas at the next Halloween or dress up party.

First up is colored hair spray.  Benefits:

  1. Quick easy application (you literaly shake, open, and spray)
  2. Mulitple color options (Silver, Purple, Red, Blue, Green, and Orange)
  3. You can use the same spray over and over or share with friends

Drawbacks:

  1. If you’re in a dark place it won’t show up well
  2. Not the newest thing, don’t expect to be the only one with colored hair

Next up iGlow hair gel.  A quick explanation: iGlow is the a hair gel that glows in the dark, it doesn’t need light, or blacklights or anything like that, its literally like a glowstick version of gel, it glows bright on its own for about 6-8 hours!

Benefits:

  1. Extremely cool effect of walking around with glowing hair
  2. New, you’re not going to see anyone else with this!
  3. Comes in GREEN, BLUE, RED, YELLOW, PURPLE, ORANGE and WHITE
  4. You can use some of it now, and some of it later (so long as you only mix what you plan on using for that evening
  5. If you’re a Halloween or party shop you can also purchase them in retail displays!

Drawbacks:

  1. You will get tons of looks, so only use if you like being the center of attention or being the cool kid at the party.
  2. A little bit more expensive then spray
  3. Takes more time to apply (about 5-8 minutes, depending on how much you like to style your hair)

Both items can be found at Windy City Novelties, Inc.

iGlow™ hair gel

Chemiluminescence, chemoluminescence, costume, glow, hair accessories 1 Comment

Introducing the new iGlow hair gel.  It’s actual hair gel that glows in the dark!!! (image a glow stick in your hair).

Simply mix the two packages together to get an amazingly bright styling gel that you simply run through your hair.

No Blacklights, no neon flourescents, just honest to goodness GLOW.  The process is simple:  1. Open the Package  2. Read the directions  3. Combine and mix the ingredients in the two packages *(note you don’t have to mix all of the chemicals at once, you can keep some in the pouches for later use) 4. Apply small amounts of the gel to your hair to do a layering affect  5. Go out and party!!!

This item is intended for those 13 and over.  As with all chemical products please use this with adult supervision.  I once put colored hair spray in my hair without them knowing and they nearly blew their lids!

How are our prices so low

Uncategorized, glow, golf, jewelry, lighted balloon, party decorations No Comments

I’ve been asked how our prices are so low in comparison to local party shops and other online retailers.  While there are lots of answers to this question I’ll stick to the main points:

  1. We buy in bulk, now when I say bulk I mean by the container loads, you know those big semi-trailers driving down the highway, there’s a good chance they’re coming to us.
  2. We have a lower overhead then traditional party stores since they have to maintain a high rent in a retail market.  They also have to worry about items being stolen from their stores.
  3. Volume selling, if you notice most of our items are packaged by the dozen, 2 dozen, or gross, this allows us to reduce the price to the consumer while still inking out a profit.  Many times our dozen price is the same that a party store would charge you for 3 or 4 of the item (seriously go check).

The next question is always: What about your quality? Do you sacrifice it to give us lower prices?

NO. We don’t, this is a family run business and we sell to families.  If an item comes in that we don’t think we would have at one of our own birthday parties or celebrations then it doesn’t even make it into our warehouse simple as that.

That being said we do sometimes sell these substandard items in our CLOSEOUT section or the Some Do Some Don’t section, both of which clearly state what the reason is for the firesale on the items.

Glowing Martini Glasses

Chemiluminescence, glow, party decorations, themed party 1 Comment

Glow Martini Glasses are a great way to dress up your Cocktail event while still keeping it fun and lively!

Simply Activate and then fill with your favorite concoction, my poison of choice is a Gibson made with Stoli or Kettle One (a very under appreciated vodka).  Don’t get me wrong Grey Goose and the likes are fantastic, but not every occasion calls for that level when another almost as great, and a heck of a lot cheaper, will do the job!

We also have Martini Glowing cocktail picks and hors d’oeuvre picks that glow in the dark, either to hold an olive or make that cheese platter really shine.

Anyways back to the Glowing Martini Glasses, they Glow for 6-8 hours and come in a variety of colors, each with a black stem base.  To learn how to activate a Glowing Martini Glass  view our article here on Glow Cups

Glow Cups, how to use them and the different types.

Chemiluminescence, chemoluminescence, glow, party decorations 2 Comments

Some people don’t like LED cups, its sad but true… While I always enjoy the bright colors and virtually endless lifespan (due to their replaceable batteries) there are those out there that would prefer a vivid GLOWING cup instead.  Come to think about it there is something almost hypnotic about the way the Glow just flows inside the cup, making beautiful waves of glow flow with every drink… WO!!! It almost got me again.  Note to self: don’t let the Glowing Cups pull me in when writing about them.

How To Activate a Glow Cup: Locate the ampules on either side of the cup towards the bottom.  They will be marked with a small sticker saying “press here”.  Apply pressure to each ampule individually to activate.  You will hear and feel a “POP” as it cracks.  Repeat the process on the other side of the Glow Cup.  If you are finding it hard to activate try pushing the glow cup against a side of a table or other stationary item, again with the ampule facing the corner you are pushing against.  After both ampules of the Glow Cup are activated shake vigorously for 5 seconds, this will mix the chemicals and ensure a BRIGHT long lasting glow.  *For the 1 oz. Glow Cup Shot glass the ampule is actually on the bottom of the cup, all other instructions are the same. Glow in the Dark Beer Mug

Then poor in your favorite drink and be amazed as the Glow Cup entertains and delights on its own!

Glow Cups come in a variety of sizes from 2 oz shot glasses to 12, 16, and 20 oz cups as well as Martini Glasses, Margarita Glasses, Beer Mugs and utensils!

We also have posts on our blog about our Glowing Martini Cups, Glowing Beer Mugs and Glowing Utensils

Glow in the Dark Beer Mug

Chemiluminescence, glow, glow stick 1 Comment

So you like beer, and you like the idea of having a light up cup but LED lights isn’t your thing?  Then try our NEW glow in the dark beer mug.

Glow in the Dark Beer Mug

Operating under a similar idea as the glow cups, this beer mug is ready to party!  Simply crack the ampules on either side give it a good shake or two and then let the good times poor!  My personal favorites are Sam Adams and Coors Light, but everyone has their own preference.  This Beer mug also works with the self christened “Champagne of Beers” Miller High Life.

If you’re about to serve Budweiser then please make sure you light up a Glow Beer Mug, hand it to a buddy and be sure to say “This bud’s for you”.

Don’t be surprised if recipients exclaim “My Goodness!” when being fortunate enough to get a Glowing Beer Mug with Guinness.

My Goodness my Guinness Glows!

If you’re interested in making an entire bottle of beer, or water, light up then be sure to read about our Sticky Bottoms.
