Give Glow instead of Candy this Halloween

by on October 26, 2011 at 1:29 pm

We’ve all heard the news reports about the problem with obesity in America.  It’s not enough to just worry about what to do about adults who are over weight, we’ve got to look at stopping this problem where it starts: childhood.

All too often, adults spoil children with fast food meals and unhealthy snacks packed in school lunches.  To make matters worse, when holidays roll around, so do the kids!  Sweets and treats are nice, but all good things come in moderation.

Since you can guarantee that pretty much every other house on the block will be giving out calorie filled candy, dare to be different this year and offer your trick-or-treaters something different and something better:  glow products.

121 Give Glow instead of Candy this HalloweenGlow products are not only a healthy alternative to candy, but they are also fun items which kids can use while they trick-or-treat!  Glow sticks, glow bracelets, and glow necklaces alike are all fun for kids to wear and wave around as they go door to door.  Best of all, these light up items help keep children visible as the sunsets and they are out in the dark.

Many Halloween Costumes are dark colored and don’t reflect light well.  This puts kids at risk while they are outside.  By giving out glow products, kids will be lit up with eye catching colors which will be easy to see for concerned parents and stand out to drivers on the road.

So before you pick up that big bag of candy at the store, think about the children and remember:  they are already getting more than enough candy from everyone else.  Don’t be a part of the problem with obesity in America, be a part of the solution and offer something else to kids this Halloween.

Lastly, don’t worry about upsetting kids by not giving candy.  Look at it this way, they’ll dislike you less than the person who gives them carrot sticks!

Halloween
doesn’t have to be all candy and costumes.  Halloween Gifts are a popular way of showing your friends and family how much you appreciate them.

Everyone enjoys a gift when they aren’t expecting it.  And unless your birthday is on Halloween, you’ll be happy to receive a fun Halloween gift, especially since Christmas will still be 2 months away!

But what makes a good Halloween gift?  Well here are some ideas for you to consider when looking for a special Halloween Gift.

.

5 Halloween Gift Ideas

1.  Festive Halloween Paper Lanterns
116 Halloween Gifts

A stylish decoration is always a nice gift.  People always like to decorate for the holidays, but often hold back on picking up more items than they think they will need and certainly don’t update decor often enough.  So help out your friends who have the same decorations for the 90′s (yes, that is 20 years ago now!) and give them an update with fun Halloween Lanterns.
You can also consider giving Fall Pumpkin Lanterns, Fall Paper Fans, or Halloween Fans.

BONUS TIP:  These Fan and Lanterns are not expensive!  Give your friends a couple different packs to help give your gift some variety!

.

2.  Wild Animal Costumes for Babies
29 Halloween Gifts

Do your friends and family have a little bundle of joy who is celebrating their first Halloween?  Babies and toddlers are always being put in costumes all year round, so don’t worry if you feel your costume won’t get worn for Halloween 2011.  There’s always every other day of the year for babies to play dress up and take some fun photos.
From lions and monkeys to elephants and bunnies, you can choose the animal costume you think the parents will like best or just the one that looks the cutest.

BONUS TIP:  If your baby has an brother or sister who is around the same age, try picking up multiple costumes so they can pose together.  A lion and tiger would pair nicely.

.

3.  Pumpkin Luminarie Bags

Another fun gift that can also be a great decoration are Luminarie Bags.  Luminarie bags are especially popular with Fall Holidays since the sun sets early and there is ample time for the bags to shine in the night.
Luminarie bags enjoy a position of being decorations which are often seen as ‘fancy’ or ‘classy’ even though they are just paper bags with candles in them.  So give the gift of class and fanciness when you give your friends and family each a 50 pack of Halloween Luminaries.  Choose from the 4 designs:  Pumpkin Luminaries, Spider Luminaries, Ghost Luminaries, and Skull & Cross Bones Luminaries.

BONUS TIP:  Give the gift of safety as well and provide your friends and family with safe LED tea lights to use in their luminaries.  They won’t burn the bags and are safe to handle.

.

4.  Halloween Treats
44 Halloween Gifts

Adults don’t usually get to indulge in candy as much as kids do around Halloween, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t still want it!
Treat your friends and family to some nicer quality candy than what you would find in big box stores.  Special items like Alien Glow Pops and Mini Gumball Machines make great Halloween Treats that adults will enjoy and appreciate.  Best of all, they won’t have to go door to door to get them.

BONUS TIP:  Give your sweet treat to your friends and family at a moment when kids are not present.  Children always want candy, so give the adults a fighting chance to hide this delicious gift from the young ones.

.

5.   Fun Halloween Pet Costumes
55 Halloween Gifts

Dogs and Cats like to play dress up too!  Or at least we like to think they do.
Let your friends and family dress up their pet this Halloween with fun dog and cat pet costumes.  There are a lot of types to choose from, so let your imagination run wild.
Be sure to consider the size of the dog or cat when you purchase a costume.  A big costume will still fit a smaller dog, but a smaller costume will never fit a bigger one.

BONUS TIP:  Be sure to get a gift receipt.  Costume sizes are often a guessing game, even for people, so be sure to save a receipt in case you were wrong about the size of the pet you were purchasing for.

3 Fun Ways to Hand Out CandyHanding out candy on Halloween is far from fun. Seeing how adorable or creative costumes are can be entertaining for a while, but that will start to become a bore during that long five hour period!

How can you have fun on Halloween if you are not the one Trick-or-Treating? Here is a list of 3 fun ways to hand out candy!

1) Pretend to be a Halloween decoration.

Dress up in a scary Halloween costume, and stand outside with a bowl of candy in your hands with a sign that says “Take One”. When the kids come up to take a piece (or the whole bowl), jump at them and shout a little “Boo!” This will be fun to see their reactions and award them a piece of candy!

2) Use only your hand.

When the Trick-or-Treaters ring your doorbell, only open your door a crack. Have your hand and arm painted like a zombie or some other monster. Stick only your hand out of the door with a piece of candy. Feel free to just drop the candy on the ground, or throw it down your driveway! Once you have finished that, shut the door with a slam! Those kids will definitely be curious about what just happened!

3) Hand out a bill

After you hand the Trick-or-Treaters their candy, give them a fake bill and shut the door. Look out a window after to see their reactions!

There you have it! Entertain yourself while amusing your Trick-or-Treating visitors! You can trick and treat this year!

Halloween Contests

happyhalloween pumpkins Halloween Contests
Halloween Contests
are the icing on your Halloween cake.  There is no limit to the type of contests you can enjoy for Halloween.  From Costume Contests and Pumpkin Contests to Candy Jar Guessing and Best Decorations, Halloween Contests abound!

So let’s take a closer look at these fun contest ideas!

.

4 Fun Halloween Contests

 .

1.  Halloween Costume Contest

This one can get a little heated.  Many people take their Halloween Costumes very seriously.  This is, however, an easy contest to run.  Whether you are having a costume contest at your Halloween costume party or want to throw one at another function or gathering, all you have to do is make a simple announcement and ask any one who’d like to enter to gather in a single place.
At the peak of your party, get everyone’s attention and have them all turn to rate your costume contestants.  A simple way is to just have people applaud for those they like the most.  Depending on how many people you have entered, you may have to do a few rounds to reduce the number of contestants until you have a top 3 or top 5.  With a nice small number, ask everyone to applaud for their favorite one last time and then choose the winner.
If your gathering is exceptionally large with a lot of costume enthusiasts, you can have smaller contests for categories like, “scariest halloween costume”, “best boy/girl costume”, and “best couples costume”.

BONUS TIP:  Be sure to have something nice to offer whoever wins your costume contest.  Halloween Costume Awards are a must have.

.

2.  Halloween Pumpkin Contest

A carved pumpkin is so much more than just a scary face nowadays.  People put all sorts of images and messages on their pumpkins thinking of new and innovative designs year after year.
Celebrate this annual art form with a fun Halloween Pumpkin Contest.  This is something you can do just among friends, family, neighbors, or even a whole city!
If you want to enter this exellent competition, just look up information in your area and check out some pumpkin pictures to get inspired.  If you want to run this illustrious event, then spread the word and be sure to have some criteria for judging.
Judge pumpkins on their creativity, level of difficulty, originality, crowd favorite, or by age groups.

BONUS TIP:  Give out Pumpkin Carving Kits to first time entrants to encourage their carving skills to grow!

.

3.  Candy Jar Guessing Contest

Everyone likes a good guessing game, so put your friends and family to the test!
A candy jar guessing contest is simple.  Buy a bag or two of candy, get some jars of various shapes and sizes and then count out some pieces and drop them in.  You can make it all uniform like a jar filled with just M&Ms or you can mix in different pieces of different types.
After that, just display your jars and leave some slips of paper and a box nearby for people to write down their guesses and enter.  Whoever gets closest to the actual number of pieces of candy in the jar, without going over (The Price Is Right!), wins the entire jar!

BONUS TIP:  Keep the total number of pieces hidden somewhere no one can find it.  Simply sticking it to the bottom of the jar will invite cheaters!

.

4.  Best Halloween Decorations Contest

This is just like how people compete with their outdoor decorations at Christmas.  The competition on any given block can get pretty intense.
To help organize something like this, it’s best for you to be an impartial party.  So if you don’t like decorating your yard in a big way for all the world to see, then organizing this is the job for you.
To start, just let everyone know there will be such a competition.  Either knock on some doors or print up a simple flyer and stuff some mailboxes.  Next, let the winner be decided by your neighbors and other onlookers.  Just as with the pumpkin carving contest, try and rate decorations on creativity, level of difficulty, originality, crowd favorite, or by sheer size/scope.  Have people vote by dropping a note in your mailbox.  Tally up the votes and see who wins!
If you want to be someone who decorates their yard in a big way with lots of fun Hallloween Decorations, then just go all out and don’t hold back.  It’s important to have a plan and a vision for your decorations, but if you find yourself wondering if any one idea would be ‘too much’ then you’re not in it to win it.  Go big or go home!

BONUS TIP:  Keep variety going when you put together your decortions plan.  Don’t focus on just light up items or inflatable ones.  Cover the whole spectrum!

Halloween Names

19 Halloween Names
Halloween
goes well beyond costumes, monsters, and other spooky fun things.  You can always make your own Halloween name!

A Halloween name can be something as simple as creating your own monster and then naming it, using an online name generator, or taking parts of your life – like the street you grew up on – and having them play a part in your new Halloween name.

This is a great activity for teachers to use with their students around Halloween and is actually fun for all ages!  Adults in the work place can like it too!  So here’s how to get your very own Halloween Names.

.

3 Ways to get Your Halloween Names

.

1.   Create Your Own Monster

I don’t know about any of you, but to me this seems to be the most fun.  This is also something you can do as part of your costume for Halloween.
If you like to be creative, just mix and match different costume accessories and pieces until you find something that you think looks great.  For example, when I was a kid, I used a black outfit I had as a ninja from a previous Halloween costume and combined it with a great skullface/demon mask.  Then I just bought a plastic weapon and bam:  Ninja Death Demon.
So if you want to make your own fun Halloween names, you can always get inspired by your Halloween costume and combine the two.  Just create your own costume and then think of the most awesome and fun name you can!

BONUS TIP:  Don’t feel restrained by having to be a certain type of pre-existing monster.  The scariest monsters are always the ones no one has ever seen or heard of before.

.

2.  Online Halloween Name Generator

Sometimes the best way to make Halloween names that you like is to get a helping hand and this Halloween Name Generator does just that.
While the fields to enter in your ideas may be listed as ‘Name’ and ‘Occupation’, you can feel free to type in whatever you want.  This simple generate will throw in some fun adjectives to help build around the two words you give it.  So have fun and play around with this!  Even if you don’t like the results it gives you, you’re liable to get inspired and figure out what you really want as  Halloween name.

BONUS TIP:  If you find a name you really like the Halloween Names Generator will let you post it to your Facebook page.

.

3.   Be Your Own Halloween Name Generator

In the end, all the Halloween Names generator is doing is taking two simple aspects of your life like your name and job and then sticking some wacky adjectives with it.  As a fun activity to pass the time, kind of like madlibs,  you can do this all on your own!
This is a really fun activity to do with friends.  Get some people together and then try combining your names with places.  Use pet names, nicknames, streets, schools, mascots, whatever!  Then just think of some great adjectives to complete your Halloween name.  For example, using my first dog’s name and the street I grew up on, plus an adjective, I get:  Buffy of the Haunted Highlands.

BONUS TIP:  Be sure to keep a pen and paper on hand to write down some of the fun names/adjectives as you go.  You don’t want to end up forgetting the great ideas you come up with!
