Baby’s first birthday is a very special occasion. Like all birthday’s it comes but once a year, but the first one stands out from the rest. Your little bundle of joy has come a long way in just 1 year and it’s time to celebrate.
If this is your first and only child, having a party for them will be much like the rest of your baby’s life: new territory. But don’t fear, there are a few things you can do to make Baby’s First Birthday a breeze.
Just consider the following tips when you dive in and the big day will be over before you know it.
.
Keep it Simple

Above all else, don’t go overboard with this party. This is the first of many birthday parties you will throw for your child and it’s also the one they will remember the least.
Don’t think that you need to go out of your way to decorate with a theme that they are barely able to recognize. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t decorate at all if you want to, but just don’t feel obligated to do this for your kid.
Every birthday after this one will only get bigger, so do yourself a favor and keep this one simple in terms of theme, decorations, paper goods, etc.
.
VIP Guests Only
Even if you think your little one has many friends, they probably don’t know it themselves. Inviting other parents and children may seem like a good idea, but you’ll quickly find your gathering overwhelmed with crying kids.
Keep this first special occasion to just your immediate and extended family. It may seem like a cute idea to get a bunch of little babies all together in one place, but there are a lot of baby logistics to consider that can negatively impact your gathering.
Do grandma and grandpa a favor and just keep this one small.
.
Useful Gifts are Good

It may be your baby’s birthday, but you’ll play a starring role in the whole event. That being the case, consider asking that your child receive some helpful items instead of 100% toys.
At such a young age, whatever your little one receives, clothes or toys, they aren’t liable to use them much if at all. Since people will buy items regardless, you should consider putting the word out for a few items you need for raising your child. Yes, most of this will have been covered by the baby shower, but you will always need a little more of something.
Don’t feel like you’re stealing your baby’s thunder. Odds are they will have fallen asleep before the party is over, leaving you with the clean up. How rude! All the more reason you should get something to help out.
